2nds & 3rds through to Prelim

August 30th, 2010

Awesome results from VAFA Headquarters yesterday saw the Reserves and 3rd XVIII both win their 1st Semi Finals by considerable margins and stake a claim on a Preliminiary Final after a week’s rest.  Detailed reports to follow.

Season Draws to a close

August 30th, 2010

Last weekend, the OMFC took on De La Salle in all 4 Premier grades, and of course took on Old Xavs in the Grand Final of the Club XVIII Competition.  The 5 games produced just one win as a long and difficult season took its toll on us in our first year back in the top flight.  Unfortunately for the Clubbies our one win wasn’t the premiership, with Old Xavs "Crocs" again proving that Grand Final experience is so critical.

Results
1st XVIII OMFC 44 defeated by De La Salle 125
2nd XVIII OMFC 41 defeated by De La Salle 78
3rd XVIII OMFC 101 defeated De La Salle 48
Under 19’s OMFC 47 defeated by De La Salle 139
Club XVIII OMFC 42 defeated by Old Xavier 78

For the All Stars this was a particularly disappointing result, after being within striking distance at 3/4 time only to see Xavs outscore us into the wind in the final quarter.  Despite the loss, The Stars are to be congratulated for a fantastic year both on and off the field.  Well done boys.

Season Still Alive for 2nds and 3rds
Whilst the Stars and Unders and some of the senior players have begun the "post-season", this weekend there are still two chances for us to progress deep into the finals, with the Reserves having finished 4th and the 3rds finishing 3rd at the end of the home and away rounds.

OMFC 3rd XVIII v Uni Blues, Elsternwick Park, 9.30am SUNDAY
OMFC 2nd XVIII v Old Xavs, Elsternwick Park, 11.50am SUNDAY

Good luck boys!! All supporters are urged to get along and share a pleasant Sunday morning at VAFA Headquarters to see if we can’t build towards picking up some sliverware in 2010.

CONGRATULATIONS HAMISH TURNER - 100 GAMES

August 20th, 2010

Last year, Hamish Turner started 2009 as Captain of our first XVIII and looked set to hold up the Premiership Cup as a triumphant skipper.  Tragically, midway through the year he was cut down by a horrific injury which shattered his patella.  The injury required a full knee reconstruction, his second.  True to his "team first" ethos, Hamish remained involved for the rest of the season, assisting the leadership group and coaching team.  His reward was to join James Beaumont and Mick in lifting the 2009 Premiership Cup.

Most players might have said "enough is enough" but Hammer has fought back to play again this season, and this weekend, notches up his 100th game.  It’s another in a fine list of achievements for the OM’s:

  • Best First Year Player 2004
  • Seniors B&F 2007
  • Seniors 3rd B&F 2008
  • Club Captain 2008-2009
  • Best Clubman 2007-2009
  • Committee Member 2008-9

From all the Committee and the wider OMFC supporter base, congratulations Hamish!
