The reserves objective was to win the last 3 games of the year. After getting over Old Haileybury last week we took on an improved Carey in fantastic conditions on the junction for the last time this year. The game started with both teams really keen to win and intensity and effort levels from both teams was pretty high. We were winning the ball with James Mitchell ,Tim Mclardy Charlie Cumbrae and Ben Mckie in the middle. There were plenty of inside 50’s but Carey were really good at pushing back and defending and they were already playing a loose in defence. Our backline led by Jono Gooley ,Sam Quennell ,Dean Osmond and Jono Phillips worked really hard for the first half to have a team goalless at half time is a great effort.
The game was really hard in warm conditions with both teams fighting to win contested ball and we both were going inside 50 however no one could score. We led by 23 points at half time.
The second half instructions were pretty clear start converting on the scoreboard you cannot have so much of the ball and not get rewarded. Keep the effort and workrate levels up and it will happen.
We maintained our effort level and intensity and they dropped off a little and we made them pay. Clearances were exceptional resulting in 4 goals. Our ability to switch the ball and run and go from coast to coast to again shooting for goal was really good. In the third we kicked 5 goals to 1 and in the final 7 goals to 2 goals. The eventual winning margin was 80 points and sets up our last game against St Bedes who are on the same amount of wins.
