The reserves took on last placed Old Haileybury in a very important game for the club. We wanted to win exceptionally well to set the scene for the senior game. The first quarter was set up by a raging Lachie Bennett after coming back from 2 good games in the seniors he wanted to have a huge day out.It was a great start with Lachie kicking 3 goals in 5 minutes from the on ballers winning the centre clearances and delivering into an open forward line. The intensity was there early and our willingness to win every contested ball was a key focus of the day.
The backline was led by Jono Gooley ,Charlie Cumbrae Marty McCoy and Jono Philips really working hard on defending any forward entries by Haileybury. The ball was coming into our forward 50 a number of times and it was clear with extra numbers from Haileybury that there had to be great teamwork to enable us to convert .At half time we led by 36 points and believed we had alot more to give.
In the second half the on ballers were led by Ed Mitchell ,Charlie Wilmoth and Chappy leishman and they worked really hard around the ground. Sure enough our effort in the third was very good 6 goals to one and clearly on top. The forward line led by Lachie Bennett and the best don’t argue with me push all year had great support from Al Ferguson Steve Petsinis and the mercurial Ed Hughes.
The last quarter we continued to control the ball with Ed Hughes now running everywhere as our new centre man and collecting countless possessions we managed another 5 goals to none and ran out 105 point winners.
