Sunday Prayers Answered!
OM's travelled to the home of Amateur football yesterday to take on a resurgent De La Salle, fresh from rolling Collegians by 8 goals, and ourselves off the back of another disappointing loss. However this was an OM outfit that seemed determined to run in numbers and create contests like we had not seen all year. The intensity at the contest took De La by surprise as we led by 38 points at the first break, with no wind assistance. De LA gradually worked into the game and the OM's lead was cut to 31 at half time, then 23 at the last change. De La smelled a comeback and kicked the first two goals of the last quarter, bringing the gap to just 11 points with 20 minutes still to play. But the Dark Blue boys showed a resolve not yet seen and hit back, with Tom Bachet capping a brilliant day in defence by kicking the sealer on the run from 40. Our young boys performed brilliantly, including first gamer Ted de Fegeley, and the promoted Adam Marangon and Tim Oman. A 21 point victory was thoroughly deserved, coach David Landrigan justifiably proud and relieved at the same time.
OMFC 13.16.94 defeated De La Salle 11.7.73
Cam Beck managed to snare another 3 goals, whilst Tom Bachet was judged our best. Sam Dunell's aerial work was brilliant and he and Tom Paule kicked 2 goals each. The feeling in the rooms post game was amazing, and the song was sung with great gusto (despite a couple of new boys struggling for the words!).
Again OM's fared well in the other grades with wins to the Clubbies and 3rds. The Unders followed up last weeks first win of the year with a spirited fighting display against ladder leader De La Salle, and stand in coach Wayne Oswald was thrilled with the endeavour. Alas the boys fell just 6 points short of a major boil over.
