Thirds Roll On
The thirds were made to work hard at the beginning of each quarter but our superior running and ball-handling ensured that a commanding victory was never in doubt.
The win was set up by an electric first quarter from Steve ‘slippery eel’ Petsinis , who slithered through 4.2 including a couple of gems. First quarter specialist Chris Wischer dealt out some delightful don’t argues in a bustling performance around the packs and skipper Marty McCoy was as spirited as ever across half back and through the middle.
The OMs’ centre square dominance was made complete by the deft ruckwork of senior debutant Brent Townsing and the sublime touch of Aaron Gregory. Scotch’s midfielders were no pushovers but they were unable to match our speed and the open game enabled us to pile on the goals in the second and third quarters.
Once again Lachie Cameron, Jono Gooley and Toby Dixon provided dash and drive from the backline and Jono Philips looked much more comfortable at this level. Ed Hughes’ dukes were particularly sticky and Ben Baines was a truly terrifying presence at full forward.
It's always nice to give Scotch a belting but this is a team with bigger fish to fry. Watch this space.
