The OM’s produced a commanding performance in atrocious conditions at Coburg on Sunday to deliver a brilliant Fathers Day present to all its supporters. Kicking into a strong but gusty wind, OM’s started brilliantly, fighting back many SKOBS forward thrusts with dogged defence. Whilst SKOBS goaled three times from free kicks or 25m penalties, the work-rate of the OM defenders, brilliantly led by Charlie Gardiner, restricted the opposition to just 3 goals. At the other end the forwards managed to score 2 goals into the wind to keep the pressure on. In the 2nd quarter, OM’s bombed the ball long with the wind, and with straighter kicking may well have iced the game before half time. SKOBS took advantage of another 25m penalty to land their one goal for the quarter, whilst 3.6 with the breeze gave us a handy, but still tight 10point margin. It’s hard to fathom giving up 6 goals with the breeze and being able to consider that we won the 3rd quarter, but with the wind building to gale force at times, OM’s managed to cut off countless SKEV attacks, and then work the ball around the boundaries, ultimately scoring 3.6 into the breeze. Again straight shooting could have put the result beyond doubt, but a 5 point deficit at the last change gave OM’s plenty of chance of coming home with a wet sail. And after just 1 minute, brilliant play through the centre had our noses in front, and two more in quick succession put the result beyond doubt after just 5 minutes, before the flood gates opened. A stunning 12 goal final term sent us to the Grand Final and SKEVS to a preliminary final, where Old Trinity are waiting after defeating St Bernard’s.
OLD MELBURNIANS 2.2 5.8 8.14 20.21-141
ST KEVINS 3.3 4.4 10.7 13.8-86

Best Players: A. Marangon, A. Lapin, T. Paule, J. Beaumont, T. Davis, M. Hawkins
The determination to win was evident across the board, but standout performances were turned in from Adam Marangon, up from the Under 19’s, Angus Lapin, Tom Paule and Tim Davis. The Beaumont boys peppered the goals and landed 9 between them, whilst Michael Davis led the scoring with 5 majors. Seccull and Hawkins led from the front on a day not really suited to big men.
OM’s will savour the return to A Grade with a week off, and a Grand Final to prepare for. Hopefully the all-conquering Under 19’s can show the boys how to go about it this weekend!!
RESERVES
Our undefeated Reserves side put in another solid performance, accounting for St Kevin’s by 5 goals at Coburg on Sunday. The win sees the Rezzies into the Grand Final in 2 weeks time, with their opponent to be decided this weekend when SKEVS have to back up with a tough challenge against a full strength Uni Blacks. Three goals each to Cudlipp, Mitchell and Ferguson up forward was well balanced by a standout display from the veteran Gussy Waddell, who turned in a typically stoic performance for Fathers Day in front of his young son!

GRAND FINAL WEEK FOR UNDER 19’s
Old Brighton, humbled by OMFC in the 2nd Semi to the tune of 118points, turned it all around on Saturday with a solid win over De La Salle to earn the right to have another crack at the boys in Dark Blue. Frank’s lads are primed to finish off the good work of a season where they finished with a minor premiership.
Now just one week to go to erase the disappointment of 2008!! Good Luck Boys.
