OMs SMASH OLD HAILEYBURY
A commanding performance by the OMFC over Haileybury at Mackinnon Reserve last Saturday made sure the upset home loss to Trinity was a distant memory, and has re-focussed the team prior to a very important fortnight for the Club. As predicted, St Bernards travelled to the University for a tough clash, but the outcome was more than any punter could have imagined – a 135 point demolition of the top team. These two results see OMFC back on top of B Grade with just 2 games to play.

The win at Haileybury was set up with an amazing first quarter. Old Haileybury had been in solid form with 7 wins from their past 8 games, including a big win over St Kevins last week. Kicking into a stiff breeze, OM’s set the match up with excellent running and fantastic ball movement to lead at quarter time. The 7 goals to 1 in the second term capitalised on the first quarter effort and basically put the result beyond doubt. Tom Seccull marked everything that came his way in a 5-goal, best afield performance. The Beaumont boys shared 7 goals between them and the on ball division led by Paule and Greene showed excellent form just weeks out from the finals. It was one of the best 4-quarter efforts of the year, and was celebrated with a further 7 goals in the final quarter. The 65 point margin was probably a good indication of the gap between the sides on the day.
THIS WEEK
OMFC take on Hampton Rovers. Rovers accounted for Old Camberwell last week, and subsequently leapfrogged from last position into 7th place. However the evenness of the competition this year sees them still firmly in relegation calculations, needing one more win to guarantee safety. A heavy defeat will cause them to lose percentage and be right back in the mix. On the other hand, OMFC need to be on our guard against any team faced by the proepct of relegation - history shows an amazing number of upsets in the final rounds of the ammos.
HOW B.GRADE IS SHAPING UP
A amazing season, with the Top 3 positions sewn up (order still to be confirmed!), but 4th place and 5th place (Trinity and Blacks) separated by just a few percent and fixtured to play each other this week. Trinity then face bottom placed Carey in Round 18, whilst Blacks play OMFC! Amazingly, at the other end of the tbale 4 sides can still technically be relegated. All play at least one of the others over the next 2 rounds, whilst Camberwell, currently 9th, look to have the toughest task, facing Skevs and Haileybury.
GRAND FINAL THIS WEEK - GO OM’s!!!!!
OM’s 3rd XVIII, undefeated all season, face off in the Club XVIII South Grand final this Friday night against ORMOND. The match starts at 6.45pm at Elsternwick Park, and all OMFC fans are asked to get along and cheer on the boys in what would be an historic win in their inaugural season. Good luck to Erwin and the team.
LUNCH THIS WEEK – GUEST SPEAKER CAROLINE WILSON
OMFC host Hampton Rovers on the Junction this week. In all likelihood this will be the last home game for OMFC at this ground, so the day is set to be a celebration. Hopefully we will also be celebrating the 3rds wining their maiden premiership the night before, so get along to lunch and enjoy a great day. UNDER 19’s TO PLAY CURTAIN RAISER THIS WEEK
This weeks Unders clash has been transferred to the Junction, to kick off before the Reserves. This should be a cracking encounter just a week out from the finals, with the OMFC 2 games clear on top of the ladder, taking on Ormond, who could drop to 4th if they lose at the hands of the Dark Blue. Get on down to the Junction to support Frank and his boys.
