Unders v Ormond
An early start greeted the Under again this week as we travelled out to Ormond to play a fired up opposition who were keen to make amends for a poor game the week before.
The boys knew that this was an important game and the intensity shown by both sides was evident across the day. We struggled early to come to grips with the conditions and Ormond capitalized with 4 goals in the first quarter but as the dew lifted some open football was played and the 2nd quarter saw us with a 6 point lead at half time. We had a number of players struggling to get into the game however Maccioli, Gooley, Hatfield Stubbe, Bennett, May, the two brothers in Matt and Adam as well as Armstrong worked hard to bring us back into the game.
The 3rd quarter was a bit of a mixture with Ormond taking a 21 point lead through enterprising play. Al Armstrong and Adam Marangon played outstanding football along with Macciolli and Dunell who repelled a number of Ormond attacks.
The 4th quarter was a bit of a struggle even though we entered the Ormond 50 on a number of occasions we couldn’t get the result on the board we wanted. 6 points may as well be 6 goals or 1 point for all that matters but I am sure the boys learnt some very healthy lessons about Ormond and themselves from the weekend.
One could also say a missed game against worthy opponents however when you have more scoring opportunities than the opposition you could say we lost it and did not finish as well as we could have.
Nevertheless we will finish 8 wins 1 loss going into the 2nd half of the year and if you had asked the coaching panel at the start of the year would they have taken that I am sure they would have said yes.
With a break again next week via an Oakleigh forfeit we will undoubtedly regroup and refocus for the next half of the year. The 2nd round will also bring its challenges but with 6 games at home in the back half we are well positioned to capitalize on our excellent start to the year.
See you in two weeks!
