There are fewer harder tasks in Amateur Football than playing DLS at Waverly Park and we knew that we had to play well after DLS had accumulated a number of scalps over the past month.
With this in mind the 1st quarter saw us get into gear and in no time had posted 5 goals on the board through excellent play out of the middle and some fine finishing from Lachie Bennett. DLS worked hard to bring the ball forward through chipping and running but our pressure round the ball was excellent and we continued to control the play.
The 2nd quarter was played very much as the 1st with OMs dominating the play and with our backline solid we kept DLS to one goal again. Our on ball division had continued the excellent work done in the first and goals by Healy (2) and Armstrong put the game out of reach of DLS at halftime.
The 2nd half petered out and a very good 14 goal win was recorded. We had many players who played well over the day but it was pleasing to see Lappin, M Marangon, Juppie, Bennett, Gooley, Webb and Carter to name a few consistent performers across the day.
This was the first of five straight away games that we have and it was excellent to see us win one against solid opponents. DLS also showed enough that they will worry sides in the future with the view of causing some upsets in the 2nd half of the season.
With solid performances recorded by Wischer, Dean, Russell and Wall in the 3rds on the weekend and the eminent return of some players from long term injuries in Hayes, Tunbridge, Quennell, and Hurley our playing stocks have never looked more positive.
This week we have a well earned rest and with Ormond first game back after the break our boys will be keen to once again test themselves against a top four side.
Finally thanks to Warwick Carter and Rob Marangon for their support on the weekend.
