Round 4 - Ressie’s Hold On To Top Spot

May 12th, 2009
Back at the Junction after two weeks on the road, undefeated and limited injuries (aside from the inspirational former captain Dean Osmond) the Magoos went into the Haileybury game filled with confidence.

The OM’s were on top early with Benny Mackie (back from the sniffles), Tim McLardy and Tim Cudlip racking up possessions across the midfield and getting the ball down forward. However the OM’s were wasteful in front of goal missing shots on goal from close range. 2’s pin up boy Tim Horne who was benched early on for arriving late did himself no favours with the coach after missing from point blank. After strong performances in the previous weeks and possible goal of the year the OM’s coaching staff will have to question whether it has all gone to Horney’s head?

Despite the OM’s inaccuracy and Tim Horne’s large head, the game was evenly contested up until three quarter time. However the 2’s have been destructive in the last quarter this year and against a very stocky Haileybury they once again ran all over there opposition in the final quarter to run out 40 point winners. Benny Mackie put the nail in the coffin for Haileybury bombing two back to back goals from outside 50 m to cap off a best on ground performance. Other impressive performances on the day included Super Steve Galbraith across halfback who matched up well on the stocky Haileybury forwards, Will Myer in his first game for the two’s presented well all day in the ruck and up forward, the praying mantis Simon Guest was across every contest and Paul Kruger relished the physical conditions all day.

The 2’s remain undefeated on top of the ladder with St Kevin’s the only other team not to lose game.
