OMFC DEMOLISH ST BERNARDS!
Over the years, St Bernard’s and OMFC have fought out many tough battles in both B and A Section, and Saturday’s encounter was tipped to be another dour struggle. St Bernard’s could not lose their grip on 2nd spot, but were keen to keep winning form going into the finals in their attempt to regain a position in A Grade for 2009. OM’s on the other hand, with good recent form (4 wins from last 8 games) were desperate for the win that would mean C Grade was squarely off the agenda. Perhaps this incentive was stronger with the Dark Blue playing their best 4-quarter effort for the season, jumping St Bernard’s by 3 goals in the opening quarter and never losing the ascendancy. There were some nervous moments as St Bernard’s bridged the gap at half time to trail by just 14 points, but the OM defence was magnificent, holding St Bernard’s to a solitary point in the third, whilst we slammed on 5 majors to put the game beyond reach. But for inaccurate kicking, the eventual 43 point margin over a serious premiership contender could have been much greater. OM’s dominated all over the ground, with smart ball movement out of a resolute defence, through to a forward line with plenty of movement from multiple targets, led this week by Barclay Dixon who snagged 4 majors. They were too much for St Bernard’s as 30 scoring shots to 17 would suggest.

NEXT WEEK
OMFC play Old Caulfield with the result irrelevant to ladder positions, but plenty of pride at stake. Last time the sides met the Archer & Stevens circus came to town, so the OM’s will be desperate to reverse the result and put an exclamation mark to our form turnaround in the 2nd half of the season. Caulfield on the other hand are now in bottom place, with a crushing 83 point defeat at the hands of Beaumaris last week. Our 2009 campaign begins now - next year, we cannot afford to drop games against lowly ranked sides!
