Rd 16 Reserves: Old Carey

August 12th, 2008

Saturday wasn’t a great day for the Magoos. Again we played well in patches, but lapses in concentration, albeit brief, cost dearly. The most costly came in the 10 or so minutes after half-time.

This belonged to Old Carey, who kicked three goals in a matter of minutes to open up a five-goal lead.

For us to win, it would have to come down to the last quarter. We stole a game against Caulfield earlier this year but sadly there was to be no repeat effort.

To the boys’ credit, we fought out the last quarter, outscoring Old Carey, but the deficit was too great.

"I knew something wasn’t right when I walked down the main street of Toowoomba," Jenks said to the general store owner around midday.

"Call it a sixth sense or just a massive hangover from the opening ceremony, I just knew."

Among the positives were the efforts of Jono Phillips and James and Andy Ray, the latter providing some much-needed comic relief.

James was brave in the ruck. He can now add a bloodied nose to a black eye and damaged eye ball to his list of injuries.

Andy played with his usual passion and energy in the midfield. He even took the train as you play adage onto the field, dutifully giving us 10 push ups after missing a goal. At least Frankie Vergona had the wisdom to do it in between quarters.

Thanks to the clubbies for again helping out, to Jozza for running the boundary and Matt and his buddy of the same name for running water to us.
