U19 match report for Round 14 - verse Collegians
Played at Harry Trott.
I’m back after a short term break. You will be hereing a lot more from me as we head towards the finals so watch this space in the future.
After coming off a bad loss against Old Brighton and some late withdrawals we were keen to make ammends and get back on the winning list.
A strong wind was dominant early as we won the toss & kicked with it. Dominating the centre clearances with great play from Oaten, Nestle and McLardy we pushed the ball forward aggressively and held a commanding 6 goal lead at the first break. Breen was back to his very best with 4 goals and with Myer and off the target Hughes creating some havoc Collegians looked in trouble.
In the second quarter with the wind still strong we were able to control the game with the Lions unable to take maximum advantage of it, only putting on 4 goals to OM’s 1 and trailing at half time by 17 points. With the 3rd quarter key to our success in winning the match we were keen to take full advantage of the wind at our backs.
The third quarter was keenly fought, but the wind took its toll and we put on anther 5-8 to the Lions 1-3 and held was appeared to be a match winning 46 point lead at three quarter time. Cumbrae, Ferguson, Oman, Carter, Armstrong, Gobbo and Oaten were most damaging in supplying
plenty of ball to our forwards.
Collegians rearranged their lineup and started to dominate the play and put on 7-6 for the quarter. However we managed 3-3, and took out any chance Collegians had of winning the match with a very comfortable win in the end.
We had many winners with Breen (5 goals) Hughes (4 goals) Oaten, Oman, Mclardy, Stubbe, Rous and Ferguson good all day.
Great to see Lugg back from an knee injury, Levy and Myer who had been a way for near on a month but all in all a good team effort across the ground.
Next week we play Hailebury who is one of our old arch enemies from school so a tough encounter is expected. With our playing list strong and with plenty of depth it will be crucial for all players to work hard over the next few weeks to get there fitness levels up for what will be a tough 7 weeks.
