OM’S DELIVER CLASSIC VICTORY IN FRONT OF 1988 PREMIERSHIP STARS!

It seems like the last 6 weeks have all been crunch games, and the intensity of the OM’s players reflected this situation on Saturday.  Stringing together 4 quarters has been an issue, probably due to the young bodies and minds of the OM’s against many sides with much more experience.  After a solid first half, the third quarter on the Junction looked as if it may have proved problematic again, with OM’s losing their grip on the match as Camberwell booted 6.4 with a strong breeze.  Down by 16 points at 3/4 time, this was a mirror of the position we were in 3 weeks ago against Beaumaris.  The first 10 minutes saw the ball rebound from end to end, and the OM’s looked to be running out of time.  Tom Seccull was providing a fantastic target up front, and gradually weight of numbers around the ball from the likes of Davis, Boyd, Righetti and Morrison saw us begin to have scoring opportunities. Camberwell’s spearhead Kent Kinglsey then limped off with a hamstring injury, and the OM’s struck with two quick goals to bring the game back to less than a kick.  As our “legends” of the C Grade Premiership team from 1988 arrived at the ground (fresh from a celebratory 20 year reunion lunch) we made a late surge, kicking two quick goals within the last 5 minutes of the game, and then iced the clock for a massive victory in the context of the season.  Other notable performances came from the Under 19’s inclusions Oman , Oaten, McLardy, and Nestel.

The rest this week is well deserved and we look to the clash in 2 weeks time with top of the table Old Essendon with renewed confidence.

Where are we at?

With a bye this week before the final run of 5 games to the end of the season, OM’s now stand in 8th place, one game and 7% clear of Caulfield (who were thumped by St Bernards).   There is no chance of resting on our laurels – despite the win over Camberwell - we are still one game and 17% behind them in 7th place!!  And straight after the buy we take on top side Old Essendon, whilst Camberwell play Caulfield, in a result which has as much bearing for us as each of those sides.  For a look at the ladder and match reports, go to www.omfc.com.au and click through to the match reports page.
