Rd 11 Reserves: Beaumaris

June 30th, 2008

It’s not often the OMs magoos raise the bat for the ton but it did so on Saturday against Beaumaris.

For the first time since last year, the OMs broke the 100-point barrier in its 72-point thrashing of Beaumaris. It was a far cry from when the two teams met earlier this season when we kicked 4.15 to cost ourselves the game.

"I must apologise for that," a sheepish Cam Kennedy told the boys via satellite after our win.

"It was very windy that day and I hadn’t played since the Dean Rice reign. Two goals seven wasn’t that bad. It’s not like Bunny was a dead eye dick either when he returned."

New recruit Marcus Picken - fresh from the Cobden Reserves - chimed in with 3 blustering goals to seal the deal but the star of the show was Tommy Seccull. He bagged four on his return from injury.

"I’ve been working hard on my kicking. Even when I’m working at the Mt Erica I’ll try and kick empty bottles and cans into the bin rather than placing them," Tommy explained to the man standing next to him in the canteen queue.

"It’s really helped my technique. The boss isn’t happy but a winning worker is a happy worker so he understands now."

For the first time this season, we won every quarter. Our second half was exceptional. We outscored Beaumaris 10.6 to 2.5 and played like a side which had rediscovered its mojo.

"I like that word mojo," Nicky Lawler said to Andy Ray after a dominant game in the ruck.

"I’m going to start using that on all the students at physio."

The win keeps us within reach of the top four with seven matches left to play.

A win against Old Haileybury could have us back in the four should Marcellin and Old Camberwell both stumble.

Thanks to Jozza for goal umpiring, James Ray for running boundary and Juice Newton for making sure we didn’t have 19 on the field.
