OMFC BACK IN THE WINNERS CIRCLE
At the Junction Oval on Saturday, the OMFC scored a dramatic last gasp win over St Kevins to keep the season alive. New Senior coach Mick Lovejoy had the team well organised, and the game was evenly poised throughout the first half , with the OM’s taking a narrow 5 point lead to the long break. Putting together 4 quarter efforts has been a problem over the last 2 months, and it looked like it might hurt us again as St Kevins kicked 5 goals to 2 in the 3rd quarter to take a 2 goal lead into the last change. If there was ever the need to come out firing it was now, and with that message from Lovejoy and a spray from his assistant Erwin ringing in their ears, the OM’s were at least going to fight til the final siren. Unfortunately St Kevins kicked away to a 22point lead and held it until at least the 15 minute mark. This is the exact position we were in in Round 1, and it must have been in the Skevvies minds as we staged a miraculous comeback, kicking three quick goals to tie the scores with the ball in Ed Mitchell’s hands as the siren went. He was up to the challenge from a long way out and on a tight angle, slotting the winner after the siren to bury Skevvies for the second time this year. In the scheme of the season this is a massive result, moving us to 8th place, with a game against bottom placed Beaumaris at home this week.
OMFC 3.2 7.3 9.5 13.9.87 d. St Kevs 3.1 6.4 11.6 12.9 81
Best afield Ed Mitchell kicked 6 goals and was well supported by Hawkins with 3, and we had great input from a couple of Under 19’s Collister and McLardy.
OTHER RESULTS:
Reserves St Kev 8.6.54 d OMFC 7.9.51 (A courageous effort against the second placed team)
Under 19’s 21.14.140 d Mazenod 6.2.38 (5 goals to Breen and bags of 4 to Sartori, Armstrong and Myer, the Unders were back to their commanding best!)
Club XVIII 7.7.49 d O.Xavs(2) 6.12.48 (OM’s kicked 4 goals straight in last quarter - always a treat to beat the Xavs)
THIS WEEK
A massive week for the OMFC - Beaumaris at the Junction. The Sharks defeated us at Brighton Beach Oval earlier in the year, and we are desparate to score a second win in a row this week. Teams around us on the ladder all have tough games so this is a crucial game to help us get clear of the bottom teams. Come on down to support the Dark Blue this week.
AUCTION NIGHT
This night is critical to our off field success and we need all supporters and mmembers and family and friends to attend.
