Rd 2 Reserves: Old Essendon

April 23rd, 2008

Jenks drove home on Saturday afternoon with Thin Lizzy blaring from his speakers.

The boys are back in town, The boys are back in town.
I said The boys are back in town, The boys are back in town

As the chorus hit its 10th repeat, a worn-out Jenks wound his window down for some fresh air and quiet reflection upon the OMs’ 44-point win over Old Essendon.

The win was our first for the season and put us back on track after a horror round one.

The star of the show was Cheesecake. Inspired by the love of his life, the Cheese bagged five in a dominant display.

"Yeah mate," Cheese told his Clayton Crew after the game. "I was on fire. I had the ball on a string."

"But really it was seeing Zoe in the stands talking to Hawk which really fired me up. If he’s going to steal my woman, I’m going to steal his place in the ones."

After a torrid opening when Old Essendon threw everything at us, we showed our maturity with two late goals to Cheese.

An angry Pete Kennon dominated in the middle in his bid to reclaim a berth in the seniors.

"I really hope Fly saw that. I’ve bought 45 pairs of skins off him and now played well in the 2s. What more do I have to do to go back up?" he told cousin Scott by the canteen.

Leading by nearly five goals at half-time, we guarded against a fadeout with a strong third term to take a big lead into the last quarter.

Tommy Seccull - the Mt Erica Hotel’s barman of the month - continued to dominate in the ruck with new partner in crime Louie Haralambous.

At ground level, Charlie Wilmoth played another good one, as did dux of accounting Tom Butler.

"Imagine how good I’ll be once I finish my course and can get down to training," he thought out loud after the game. "But I can’t get ahead of myself. Doc could come any minute and call me ‘young bull’ again and my confidence will be shot."

The side takes on Old Camberwell next Saturday.

Thanks to Jozza for his goal umpiring and Pies for running the boundary.
