Bus Trip, trivia Night, Cocktail Party, $1000 Draw Reviews

:: Bus Trip

Cops, nurses, jockeys & even 4 Teletubbies were spotted on the 2007 bus trip. In case you hadn’t guessed this years theme was men and women in uniform. The night was a major success bringing all players together for the first time on a united social front. A record 77 players were in attendance this year, not to mention the MOG’s bus who joined us for the first time with their own bus of 40. The route took us over the West Gate for the first time, to the shock and horror of those dining on the Strand. Pit stops at Sth Melbourne, St Kilda ensued, with the after party upstairs at the familiar haunt of many OM’s & MOG’s -Arcadia. There were many highlights from the night; however as the old adage goes what happens on tour stays on tour.

:: Trivia Night

Held at the clubbies sponsored pub- The George Hotel, Sth Melbourne the venue was a fresh change from the sobering Morton room. Organised and MC’d by Wally Carter, the night was very successful with over 120 people attending. Questions were challenging, not so for Marty Kennon’s table, which took out the Crocs and Lazy Patch prizes. Thanks must also go to Nikki Craig for donating prizes - especially the Essendon jumper that Honest Dean fervently snapped up at a prize that he then realised couldn’t afford.

:: Cocktail Party

After a thrilling on field end to the season the club was primed for its off field offensive at the annual cocktail party. With spirits high and flowing freely 450 players and supporters packed the St Kilda Beach House revelling in the winning atmosphere. $5 Yagers again proved a popular drink of choice and ensured the dance floor was brimming til the wee hours. Eyebrows were raised on the arrival of Under 19’s coach Doc Neeson who resembled a cast member from the set of Sea Patrol. First year player Michael Keskerides flew the flag for the club by luring 33 guests to the event and taking away the $100 drink card. The night again proved a great success & solidified the clubs position as the pre-eminent social destination in the amateurs.

:: $1000 draw

Tinny is the best way to describe Charlie "Pud" Wilmoth who for the 2nd year in a row shared the spoils of the $1000 draw. A relaxed atmosphere was collectively embraced with sore heads nursed throughout the afternoon’s festivities. Things started to fire up with the return of night racing to the Junction with Neddy Morrison taking out the goal to goal dash closely followed by the Rig who was unable to emulate his feats of the day before.

Again lucidity escapes me post Junction but reports that Super Sunday continued through to The College Lawn and Star Bar ensured Monday’s pain was inescapable.

The OMFC would like to thank Junior Prowse, Stump, Rocket, Wally Carter, Young Bull Butler & Nikki Craig for all their help on the social front in 2007.

Cheers Hawke & Hammer.
