Round 7: All Stars V Mazenod

June 9th, 2007

:: All Stars Report - By Newts.

Stars Maul Mazenod

In an ultra-dominant performance the All Stars razed Central Reserve in Springvale and gained some valuable percentage.

Right across the ground the Stars reigned supreme. Wulffy, Berma and Stu Wettenhall were unstoppable in the engine room and the crumbing of Coops and Bains was as deadly as it was opportunistic. Tandy and Hurst were without peer in their aerial duels and the battle for the keg is tightening. Rob Galbraith shed his G-plates with abandon, taking his conversion rate for 2006/07 to a masterful 1.19.

Ned Guy played a typically robust role around the ground whilst Jim Utting’s return injected more grunt into the Stars centre line. In the backline Stogdale’s pinpoint switching and safe hands, Hugo Sampson’s uncompromising attack on the ball and Schofield’s much-vaunted ability to burn Mazenod on the turn around, capped off by a barnstorming long goal, gave the boys from Springvale no relief.

On days like these a sense of perspective is important. A walkover against a rabble masquerading as a football team should not be imbued with undue significance. In the rooms there was the pleasure of a task well executed but no triumphalism.

The Stars have taken top spot but it is on percentage. The acid will be applied next week when we meet the Crocs.
