Round 6: Reserves V Uni Blacks

June 2nd, 2007

:: Reserves Report - By ‘The Red Leg’.

In three months time, we could all be looking at June 2 as the day when the OMs 2s arrived in 2007. Sure we lost a third game on the trot, and by nearly six goals as well to Uni Blacks, but the side played quality football for much of the game and it was only lapses here and there which proved costly.

Two late goals before quarter time were costly, but we unleashed an outstanding burst in the second term to make the Blacks look second rate, which they are not.

The third quarter was an arm wrestle and there was only 10 points in it going into the last quarter before the Blacks finished all over us.

But there were plenty of positives. The side was determined not allow a repeat of what happened the week before at St Bedes and our attitude was faultless. In a sight which would have pleased the two Micks and Fly and Beauey, the 2s tackled in numbers, were ferocious in their attack on the ball and did not wave the white flag.

When we had the ball, we moved it with precision. Our hands were fast and our kicking accurate. Pies will be pleasantly surprised when he trades his nurse’s outfit for an OMs kit for he could be staring at a few sausage rolls without having to head to a canteen.

Will Kiel cast aside visions of Jakob Berry to play his best game of the year in the middle where Panna was also strong in the clinches.

"My webbing was strong as well. I wanted to have a big one during the day so I could have a big one on the bus," Panna was heard explaining to his old man later in the day.

Fletch was again impressive in his first season of senior football, Peto banged louder and louder on Fly’s proverbial door, while Webby overcame the loss of partner in crime Ando to run amok.

"When I saw my buddy Ando’s fingers at that angle, I knew I had to pull my finger out too," Webby said. "I love Ando. I run lakes with him after training and we push each other. Nobody else at the club understands how it feels to be fast."

Dean Osmond certainly doesn’t and he won the six-pack on offer for being our best player under controversial circumstances. While there was no dispute he was our BOG, he did not deem it worthwhile to be there to receive his prize. And as a result, several beers were plundered.

"What a disgrace. An absolute disgrace. I want an inquiry. Heads will roll," threatened Honest Dean. "And wait until I get my hands on Cheese for opening a beer then putting it straight back in the fridge."

Thanks to Jozza for goal umpiring, Marty for running water and Pies for manning the boundary.
