Round 4: All Stars V Old Xavs (2)

May 19th, 2007

:: All Stars Report - By Bainsy.

The undefeated All Stars trekked out to East Kew to take on an Old Xavs side relishing the prospect of taking on one of their finest, Coach Landrigan a multiple premiership player and OXFC Hall of Famer. This sense of contest only escalated when late withdrawals compounded an already long list of unavailabilities, forcing the Stars Coach to make his navy blue debut.

The game itself was an old fashioned contest. Dour, scrappy and tough football was the order of the day. Challenged about tardy starts in recent times the Stars began strongly with a goal inside the first couple of minutes. This however belied the ensuing ebb and flow of the game, with the ball spending an inordinate amount of time between the respective half back lines.
The final stanza brought a predictable arm wrestle, the Stars desperately striving for victory. Confidence remained given the previous 2 weeks come behind efforts but, alas, it came to nought, the Stars falling 3 points short.

Perhaps the result was a needed and deserved reality check after a few bad concentration lapses in the previous fortnight. Perhaps a reward for some yet to be remedied bad habits. Only time will tell. For now the old enemy Scotch awaits us back at home, just the tonic to quickly resume focus.

All Stars - 6.9 (45)
Old Xavs 7.6 (48)

GOALS: Bains, Berman, Guest, Guy, Ironmonger, Tucker

BEST: Staley, Berman, Russell, H. Tomlinson, Lawler, Sampson
