:: All Stars Report - By Bainsy.
After the delayed start to the season - making it possibly the longest All Stars pre-season ever - Round 1 finally arrived. The forecast rain abated early morning leaving the clichéd perfect day for football. With a talented blend of youthful exuberance and experienced composure, the All Stars were quietly confident but unsure of what to expect from a usually fit and nimble De La outfit.
A withering opening 15 minutes saw the All Stars post the first 11 scoring shots, only the wayward kicking (4.7) keeping De La in the game. The tone had been emphatically set for the day, the All Stars meeting with little resistance from then on. The most conspicuous positive was the ferocious pressure exerted by the All Stars. Hunting in packs, numerous tackles, smothers and shepherds were laid, culminating in many De La turnovers and nervous rear glances.
Although the intensity decreased in the last quarter with De La kicking 5 goals, the Stars ran out comprehensive victors, starting the 2007 campaign in ominous fashion. The midfield amassed possessions at will, the defence was dour and miserly and the forwards took a plethora of pot shots. While there were many fine individual performances, the result was a reflection of the disciplined team focus shared by all who took to the field. With a few opposition sides also enjoying convincing wins, an enthralling season awaits!
