:: Reserves Report - By ‘The Red Leg’.
Travelers in Asia will have seen this saying: "Same same but different". We still have the same coaches and captain and, for that matter, largely the same players, but everything feels different.
Four men on the bench was a pipedream last year, this year it’s a reality. Oh, and we won and posted the ton to boot in our 15.13 (103) to 8.7 (55) win over St Kevins at Junction Oval.
What a difference it makes having a fit and firing full forward. Pies (Rod Matthews) provided his usual highlights, both on and off the field. His prompt response at half-time when asked how many he had bagged in the first half was signature Pies as was his audition for a "Jesaulenko, you beauty!!" in the opening quarter.
In his first match as the senior Ray at the club, Razor (James Ray) put behind him an injury-marred pre-season to conduct a clinic in the ruck. The midfield all ran amok as a result, leaving one co-captain to remark after the game: "I better stay in the 1s. I might not get a game in the 2s."
Special congratulations to Conrad and Chub (Charlie Wilmoth) on their entry to senior footy and welcome to the club for Pratty (son of Dick) on winning on debut.
Carts said prior to the game he wanted to have difficulty fitting 22 into a best six. He got his wish. Now to do it another 17 times.
